How do I prove slander

More details to this question:
I work for a small business in which I'm the manager and receive payment from customers. I had a customer who came in to get his product and made the statement that he pays in cash,but wouldn't give me the money because the owner of my company wouldn't get because as a black man I would steal it.

While it is a bigotted and racist statment - it is not "defamatory" as it is essentially (a) an opinion which is not actionable and (b) was stated to you not to a third party where it damaged your reputation.
