Asked on Dec 27th, 2013 on Civil Litigation - Pennsylvania
More details to this question:
I am interested in suing someone for libel and I want to see if i have a case. and I want to ask how to go about putting a dollar amount on the suit. The person (ex friend) posted online fake reviews of my business on google reviews. the persons picture and real name are clearly there on the review and I have instant messages from her as proof also. The person was never a client of mine. I have screen shots of the negative fake review as evidence. The fake reviewer is located in PA. The business is an LLC registered in PA. The business has a mailing address in NYC. I live in NJ.

Generally, in a case like yours, the jury sets an amount for damages. The injured party sues and has to prove three things: 1. What was said damaged reputation, 2. What was said was untrue, and 3. The untruth caused damages. If that's the situation, then you may have a case. This response is provided as general legal information only and does not form an attorney-client relationship.
