QUESTION

If someone put stuff in my storage unit 18 months ago, whose property is it?

Asked on Mar 19th, 2014 on Litigation - Washington
More details to this question:
My ex mother in law put her son's stuff who is in jail in my unit so she would not have to get a unit. She said she would pay half and never paid a penny. Now her son is getting out. She wants it back and doesn't want to pay the $950 which is half of what it cost me. Now she is trying to say I stole it. Can she have criminal charges brought against me?

Yes, she could lie. Your error was to let it go on so long. You could have given her 90 days to collect the property or have is sold. Whether you test your ex-mother-in-law, depends upon your relationship. You could take her to small claims. Her lie would not hold up.
