QUESTION

Is it necessary to file an answer with the courts?

Asked on Jan 18th, 2013 on Civil Litigation - Colorado
More details to this question:
I sold a boat to a couple in May of 2012 it is a 1978 so of course it was sold as is I offered to take it on the water for them so they knew it was fine they declined and took the boat. A few days later they emailed me and said that the engine oil looked milky, I told them I didn't know maybe it overheated but it never did for us they are now suing me for $5000 because they state that the boat is not seaworthy. I just realized the courts need me to file an answer sheet but I don't have the money to do so at this time. How do I prove my case without an answer sheet

You must file an answer or a motion to dismiss, or you will lose by default.  If you cannot afford the filing fees, you should speak to the clerk of the court about what you need to do file "in forma pauperis" and have the fee waived.
