Is it possible to sue my mother for emotional damage?

I would like to know if I have a case against my emotionally abusive mother. She constantly berates and threatens and calls me derogatory name, was detrimental to my education, and has destroyed personal property in fits of rage. She has also repeatedly threatened bodily harm to my father and myself. After enduring this for 20 years, she's reached the point where she is threatening us everyday.
