QUESTION

Is this grounds to start a case or hire a lawyer for?

More details to this question:
To keep it vague and short, I matched with someone online (dating). The individual was in a heap (homeless) and no financial means of taking care of herself. Over time, I lend her over 7 thousand dollars in the last 8 months. I believed the relationship was getting serious and she agreed to marry me. Individual agreed to pay me back. Suddenly, she has blocked all contact from me and shows no interest in communicating with me. After hiring a private investigator and locating her whereabouts, I have tried contacting her again, only for her to block me again and said that I was harrassing her when I just wanted a time table of when she can pay me back. It was revealed by the private investigator that she gave me a fake name and lied about who she was from the dating app. I want my money back and felt I was used both financially and emotionally from the experience. Can I make a case for this?

While I've only read your side of the story, it certainly states a case - you loaned her money, she hasn't repaid it.  However, it may be very difficult for you to collect, even if you win your case, as this woman sounds like a con artist.
