QUESTION

What can I do about my abusive sister?

Asked on Feb 28th, 2014 on Litigation - California
More details to this question:
My sister is very abusive towards my younger sister and I. She yells at us and always gets her way with everything and when something doesn't go her way she freaks out and causes our entire family emotional harm. She is 24 and my mother has kicked her out before until she recently was let back in. Ever since she was allowed back my younger sister and I go straight to our rooms when we get home so we don't have to deal with her. However she always finds some way to be mean, crude and hurtful to us. Is there anything I can do to get her to stop or get her out of my life?

Do not get into a confrontation with your sister. Living in a hostile family environment is not in the best interest of a child. Do you have anyone else you can talk to besides your mother? Speak to your mother about your fears. Explain your feelings, fears and concerns. IF the problem continues and you cannot get help from your family, then you have no alternative but to call law enforcement who will ultimately notify Child Protective Services, AKA Children's System of Care That is where you may have to go.

Sorry to hear about this, but this is a family issue, not a legal one.

If this is your house you could require her to leave. Since this is your mother's house you would have to file an action for domestic abuse. There must be evidence of a course of acts which make you fear for your safety. Your other choice is to move to your own apartment or home.
