QUESTION

What can I do if a company is continuously losing my payroll checks?

Asked on Mar 04th, 2014 on Litigation - Michigan
More details to this question:
Over the last year or so, I have had 7 or 8 instances in which my payroll checks have never been delivered. First, I was told we didn't have a regular carrier, which may be the problem. Upon losing another one, I was told we shouldn't have a problem as we now have a regular mail carrier. My neighbor one day showed up at my house with one "lost" check. Since then, I have had to reimburse my boss for all canceled check fees and have resorted to certified mail. Lo and behold, once again, lost in the mail. What can I do to right this situation? I have the P.O. on speed dial at this point and it goes nowhere with them. I am eating the costs including certified mail delivery and not getting my checks. I only get paid about once a month as it is. Any advice would be helpful.

Why don't you ask the employer to directly deposit your checks into your bank account? Cheaper for them, and a lot less hassle. Other than that, you file a complaint with the Post Office, if your checks are being delivered by mail.

My first advice would be to have your payroll checks deposited directly into your bank account so you don't have to worry about the mail.

Why are you having to pay the costs to get the check to you? That should be the employers duty. Why do you not have direct deposit? Then you would not need to have these problems.

Have your company send your check by UPS or Fed EX.

Well, this is a new one on me. Talk to your local postmaster, in person. Maybe a PO Box? Try it and see if that works.
