More details to this question:
Hi. A few months ago my now ex boyfriend assaulted me and was incarcerated. I have all of his possessions including his dog at my residence. I have contacted his family to come get the items. They have refused to come get them and the animal. What can I legally do to get rid of the items without winding up in legal trouble myself? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Pack the stuff up and have it shipped to his folks if you want to be decent about it even though he's given you no reason to be that way.  If its too much, pack them up and drop his stuff off at the folks.  You really have no obligation to him nor are you responsible for his stuff.
