QUESTION

What do I do when my ex friend won't return my personal property?

More details to this question:
Last June I stayed at my best friends house for a few days. He lives a few hours away, so when he called me after I left to inform me that I left a bunch of stuff there, I said that I would just get them next time I saw him. However, we had a huge falling out and I told him that I would pay for the shipping to have him ship my stuff. He blocked me from every social media site and blocked my phone number. Like I said, he lives a few hours away so I was unable to just drive to his house to get it back. I then went on an 8 month long missions trip that prevented me from having electronics.... so I couldn't try to contact him more about them. Since being back, I have tried everything i can to get them back. I've had friends try to contact him, I've tried to contact his other friends, and family... and no one is getting back to me. The items worth only total about 200 dollars but the sentimental value is irreplaceable. Is small claims court an option? If so, how do I go about that?

Small claims is an option.  The bigger problem is if the value is only about $200 and he no longer has possession then you'll only be granted a judgment for the value, about $200.  My suspicion is that even in small claims court you'll spend over $200 on pursuing this.     Good Luck
