What is legal procedure to remove personal items stored for free?

More details to this question:
Ex-friend (didn't live with) stored my possessions for free. He Is threatening to dispose of them if don't come up with money & means for removal by tomorrow. I was given only 3 days notice of his decision. I do not have the means to remove items by tomorrow.

Notify the police that he/she is holding your items without your permission and will not let you remove them.  If he is entitled to some sort of storage charges, he/she can file a claim in court later.  That's what courts are for.
