What is the time frame for filing a civil action case?

More details to this question:
We were victims of a crime and the defendant had to pay restitution. He has just been sentenced to prison for 18 months and the restitution has been reduced to a lien. The amount of the outstanding restitution is more than the limit of a small claim. We want to know what our rights are and what recourse we have.

ok If the attack happened on the property of a third party or the attacker was an agent or employee of a third party, you may be able to hold said third party liable under certain circumstances. More facts would need to be explored.
