What’s the best way to obtain a marriage certificate from Mexico?

More details to this question:
My brother and his girlfriend were running from the law to Mexico. Got married while they were there, were shortly apprehended back to US. Someone stole the marriage certificate; they need to get a copy.

Well, someone may try writing to the marriage bureau of whatever City or District or State in which the marriage occurred. With the graft and corruption in Mexico, you will probably have to pay all sorts of people. On the other hand, you could go down there, and go to the bureau and order the certificate, and stand there while they photocopy it for you. Lots of luck.

Find out what government agency in Mexico keeps marriage certificates, and request a copy. You might start by searching on the internet. You could contact an attorney from the area where the marriage took place.

Contact the American embassy in Mexico City or a consulate office in the town where the marriage took place. if nothing else works hire a Mexican lawyer to search for you.

If they have all the necessary information, the first place they should try is the Mexican consulate in the US for assistance if either or both of them is a Mexican national. Otherwise, they should hire an attorney in Mexico for assistance or if they know of a law firm in US that does cross border work in Mexico, that may be another option
