Asked on Apr 06th, 2014 on Civil Litigation - New York
More details to this question:
A relative picked up jewelry in Florida from grandmother residing there while alive to be delivered and divided back in NY with me. First hearing in Florida dismissed case without prejudice due to jurisdiction. Judge states breach occurred upon not delivering jewelry in NY as opposed to the pick up in Fla. Relative used to live in NY when breach occurred but now resides in NJ. Where do you sue? I live in NY. Jewelry amount is in excess of $15,000.00.

You can definitely sue in New Jersey, and likely in New York as well, as it is likely that your relative has sufficient contacts with New York to allow it to exercise jurisdiction over him/her.
