You are going to have a difficult medical malpractice case because it sounds like your infection was timely diagnosed when you presented with symptoms of that problem. If it was a simple laceration and not a deep puncture one and I don't think accepted standards of care would've required to receive prophylactic antibiotics.
It does sound like you might have a significant injury and so you should probably contact the Worker's Compensation Atty. relative to that claim.
