QUESTION

how do i start a suit against a hospital

More details to this question:
my mother was in the hospital and when she woke up she was good for a few days but then her breathing was labored. i took videos of her labored breathing. plus her feet were turning black and i kept mentioning that and the issue wasn't addressed. they said she was doing well enough to go into a regular room, i kept asking about her breathing but they moved her anyway out of icu. without proper supervision. she stopped breathing and her heart stopped, now she's altered an invalid. they called me that night told me they moved her to back to icu because they couldn't give her the care she needed on that floor and her heart rate had dropped alittle under thirty but she was ok. i didn't find out til that next day what really happened. the nurse apologized to me for that and continued to apologize as well as dr but my problem is her breathing was clearly labored. it was absolute negligence. her feet are now really bad, one is completely blackened. then the lies started.

It sounds like you have good reason to suspect that your mother received substandard medical care. Depending on her age and her underlying health problems, however, there may be a question about whether the case is financially viable. See the articles below which discuss this issue in more detail. At this stage of things your mother is still under active care and you do not know the outcome. As a result, you do not know the extent of damages, or whether possible mistakes were consequential.  Deal with the medical issues that you are facing, and then when the dust settles, if you want to investigate a malpractice case, contact an attorney. Statutes of limitations vary among states, so you have to be vigilant, but a lawyer cannot begin investigating a case while you mom is still admitted to the hospital. To investigate a malpractice case, you should contact a local medical malpractice attorney (one in your state).  They take these cases on a contingency basis which means you only have to pay if you succeed.  Additionally, initial consultations are usually free. You can use the "Find a Lawyer" service through this website to research medical malpractice attorneys.  Then, visit each attorney's website and look for a firm that has a record of successful verdicts,  ideally with experience in cases that involve your medical issue. If you are unable to find a lawyer who meets these qualifications within your state, sometimes you may contact an out of state lawyer who can refer you to a qualified attorney in your state while providing support related to the issues of medicine. Below are some articles you may find helpful.  They are written for a New Jersey audience (where I practice) but the ideas discussed in these articles usually apply in most other jurisdictions as well.
