I was 18 weeks pregnant, I got an ultrasound and the doctors told me that my son had Acrania which means he didn't form his skull. They took him out and after they took him out the surgeon said she couldn't tell if he had a skull or not. She didn't even give me a time of death, do an autopsy or even a death or pathology report which was the reason they took him out to make sure he had acrania. Even if he did have acrania, they were supposed to do tests (X-ray or autopsy) to make sure he did have that. I got special testing done where they tested via chromosomes and genetics and everything came back normal, all the paperwork I got back says he was a normal male. I have been an emotional wreck because I don't know if my son was fine or not because the doctors never did any testing after they convinced me to take him out.
Get the sonogram films and other test results reviewed by another obstetrician. That is the only way to answer your question. It seems highly unlikely that an obstetrician would abort an otherwise heathy fetus unless the doctor was very sure your son had acrania, which has a 100 percent mortality rate. However, it is understandable that you are haunted by the surgeon's comment that she "wasn't sure" if your son had a skull or not. Another doctor will be sure. If it turns out that your son did not have acrania and you were induced to have an abortion wrongfully, you have an action for medical malpractice against the doctors who advised you to abort, for compensation for your mental anguish. I am sorry for your loss.
