QUESTION

Should i press charges against my midwife?

Asked on Sep 22nd, 2017 on Medical Malpractice - Florida
More details to this question:
I am now 9 weeks pregnant and when i first found out i was pregnant I went to the OB for my 1st checkup. My first appointment they 1) confused me for another patient and while the wrong doctor was talking to me it sounded as if she was pushing abortion 2) nothing but a thin peice of paper that barely covered my legs for the ultrasound 3) left the door wide open during the ultrasound and yes they shut it when i asked but it was opened again and left open again. 4) were not familiar with the equipment they were using. It took them 45 minutes to find the plecenta. After saying "i dont see it" and scaring me half to death thinking i wasnt really pregnant but instead had some crazy disease and was dying.... I have found a new OB but they cant schedule me for an appointment until my current midwife hands over my records. And when i called and asked for them to be sent to me so i could take them to the new OB they refused to send me my own records. What do i do?

Press charges for what? There is no criminality here. You are clearly unhappy with the OB and made a change to a new one. Typically the new physician will request records from the old one as this will often occur without you paying pricey copy charges. You can work with the new OB to address that issue OR you can file a AHCA/DOH complaint if the old OB wont give you records even if you agree to pay for them at the statutory rate.
