QUESTION

Staph infection

Asked on Sep 29th, 2014 on Medical Malpractice - New York
More details to this question:
I had surgery some 2 years ago. The surgery itself went fairly well, aside from some swelling and bleeding on near each temple on the sides of my head. The surgery was for a laminectomy from c3 to c7. After they sent me home, I found that I had a horrible staph infection in the wound. The doctor told me I didn't get it at the hospital which I thought odd at the time. So they opened the wound again, did a second surgery, put in a drainage tube and had me on iv antibiotics for two months after a further 2 week stay in the hospital. Now I have so much scar tissue built up in the wound site that I have only about 20 percent mobility in my neck.

Infection is always a possible risk of surgery so there probably is not malpractice issue here. However, you can take your medical records to an attorney for a consultation and see what he or she has to say about it. You provide only limited facts in this question and it never hurts to speak to someone in person.
