Would this fall under medical malpractice?

Yes, if the hospital sedated your husband too much and this caused him to go on life support, they essentially overdosed him, and so this would be medical malpractice. The question is whether you are correct in your assumption that it was the medication that caused him to shut down and go on life support. A head blow that causes hallucinations and seizures is a pretty bad injury and perhaps it could have caused this outcome without neglilgence.
