QUESTION

Am I responsible to pay a dime for every dollar towed?

Asked on Dec 21st, 2011 on Personal Injury - Georgia
More details to this question:
I was involved in an auto accident which was not my fault and sustained injuries. At the end of the settlement, will I be responsible for medical bills? I heard that without insurance, I am only responsible to pay a dime on every dollar towed. Is this true?

Yes you are and will be responsible for the medical bills. As such, you should factor these bills into your settlement amount with the insurance company and pay off the amount due with the settlement proceeds. (You may also consider trying to negotiate a reduced bill with your medical providers.) If you do not pay the medical bills or negotiate a reduced amount, the medical providers can sue you, obtain a judgment and garnish your wages or freeze your bank accounts.
