Answer: You can apply but whether you get it or not depends on the rules, the law, the state and your medical condition.

Yes, if it is not a work injury that your employer's worker's compensation carrier is covering and paying you TTD. You apply and have your doctor certify that you cannot work.

What state disability? For social security disability, your disability has to be for a long time, like 1 or 2 years.

If you have short term and/or long term disability insurance some employers provide this) you might qualify. To get Social security Disability, you have to show that you are totally disabled from doing any job, not just you past jobs, and that the disability is expected to last more than one year.

I don't think so. Disability is usually defined as being totally disabled to do any work and is a medical call, not a personal call. Social security disability is a federal program. That is why folks sell disability insurance.

Yes, but if you are also seeking or receiving benefits from any other source (worker's comp, sick pay, etc.) you must let each source know that you are pursuing other sources so that they can apportion coverage. You can't "double-dip".
