QUESTION

Can I be sued for more than my insurance coverage?

Asked on Jul 25th, 2014 on Personal Injury - Florida
More details to this question:
I was involved in an incident with a person on a motorcycle. I was making a legal u-turn while he was coming from a curve. I didn't see him coming. He dropped the bike to avoid hitting me. I didn't hit him and he didn't hit me. He refused paramedics and calling the police but I insisted because I was hysterical. I got a ticket for failure to adhere to right of way which I'm pleading not guilty and he for not having the proper endorsement to ride a motorcycle. No police report was done and he insisted he was okay. Now I'm being sued for more than my insurance coverage. What does this mean?

Your insurance company must hire their lawyer for you and pay costs of defense. If the biker wants any money from the insurance company he must sign a release that releases you entirely. Call your insurance agent or company and they should explain your rights in more detail and answer your questions.
