More details to this question:
I frequent a local pub. I know the owner fairly well. 4+years. I tapped him in the croch by accident when messing around. He then yelled at me I apologized another patron started yelling at me also. He then punched me in the face and so did the other guy. I grabbed him to stop it and then was taken to the ground by a few of them and kicked numerous times and punched while on the ground covering my face.

Yes you can sue for being assaulted at a bar. You could sue the owner and the other people who hit and kicked you. While the owner may possibly have a defense, such as mutual fight, the people who kicked you while you were on the ground would not. I cannot comment on whether you would be successful in your case or what it might be worth without a lot more information though. You should consider talking to a personal injury. Most offer a free consultation so it would not cost you anything to learn more about your rights.

Make a police report. This is a problem with bars, booze, and the idiots that hang out there.

Well, you can try, but it's going to be rough proving any of this. They will all have their own versions. Do you have any independent witnesses who will support your version? Damages are a problem, too: if you weren't badly hurt, then it may not be worthwhile trying to bring a lawsuit; if you were seriously injured you will have to prove that with medical testimony (very costly to do) and there is a question as to whether any of the assailants will have the financial resources to compensate you.

You should at least consult with a lawyer who handles cases against bars and other public accommodation for specific legal advice and direction. It appears from your stated facts that you may have initiated the incident which resulted in your injuries.

Yes. But there is no insurance for a deliberate assault. So you might get a judgment you cant collect. Also, judges and juries don't care for bar fights. They figure you get about what you ask for in a bar fight. I believe I would let it go unless you have serious and permanent injuries

There is no insurance for intentional actions. It is unlikely the bar has a responsibility.

You can't sue the bar unless those same guys had a history of violence in the bar.

You can certainly sue those who attacked you. However, if they do not own anything, then there is not much point in such a suit. You can sue the owner if you can prove he put the attackers up to it (as opposed to them spontaneously attacking you without any conspiracy on his part), or if you could show that he was negligent in having inadequate security, or in failing to call on his security to prevent the attack.
