Michigan law indicates premises owners may be liable for defects in their premises that they create and for defects of which they have notice that are not open and obvious. Generally there is no viable claim simply because an injury occurs on a premises absent negligence.

You can, but chances are you will be found to be more negligent than the owner of the roof you fell from.

What did the property owner do wrong? What dangerous condition existed? Anyone knows that walking on a rood is dangerous and you assumed the risk. The property owner should not be held liable for your own negligence, unless there are other facts at play here that you have not disclosed. If the landowner has insurance, the carrier may pay for your medical expenses up to the limit of the med-pay provision (usually around $5,000) regardless of fault. So you can try making a claim for that.

You have to show the premises owner was at fault and you were not to be successful.

Doesn't sound like it; you would have to prove that there was some defect of the roof that caused you to slip and fall.

No as a personal injury lawyer I would never take such a case. You assumed the liability by climbing onto the roof to stargaze.
