Last week I got a phone call from bus garage telling me my daughter had a seizure on the bus ride home. The bus was around the block from my house and would be pulling up at any moment. (My daughter is 13 and autistic. Not considered very verbal. No history of seizures) As the bus pulls up the lady driver just shrugs her shoulders at me and tells me my daughter had a seizure the aide undid the seat belt and let her slide to the bus floor which is where I found her as frantically boarded the bus. I screamed at the driver and aide to call 911 and why hadn't they called 911 when this started because my daughter was still seized. Not responding and making a horrible gurgling sound. My husband was suddenly on the bus trying to help me lift our daughter( her legs were tangled under a seat. Her dead weight of 150 lbs had my husband and I unable to lift her. We yelled for the driver to call 911 still and for them to help us lift her. They did not help. Finally my oldest son helped us get her off bus and loaded into our car where we rushed to the E.R. she was still gurgling and unresponsive. Within 30 minutes she and my husband were flown by helicopter to a bigger hospital. She was on a ventilator. Doctors said she aspirated while seizing which then went into her lungs. She was in ICU for two days then one day in reg pediatric at this hospital. The bus driver was an obese woman who could barely get out of her seat and the aide never spoke to me only pointed at driver when I asked why didn't they call 911. I don't think this lady should be driving any kids if she failed to do her job.
