My attorney just reached a settlement for my auto accident after a year. The initial contract says it's 33% if there is no lawsuit and 40% if they have to file one. I'm still unsure which actually happened bc the told me that the company had 90 days times to respond to some letter that they had to send 2 or 3 times. Finally the settlement was for 15,000. The firm just informed me over the phone that I will be issued a check for 3,000 while my medical bills (which went to collection) are 4000. Which leaves the attorney with the remainder 8,000. They are waiting for me to sign Power of Attorney paperwork. Please help me understand what's happening before I sign and accept anythjng
There is no enough information to determine how fees should work. Do you if suit was filed? Do you know what the expenses are. All those issues need to be addressed before an answer or advice can be given. Your best option is to call your attorneya nd make an appointment to come into the office and see the breakdown of all things they claim need to be paid and have it explained to you.
