This past Sunday I got into a car accident. I had rear ended a vehicle. We both pulled over and stopped so we could assess damage and exchange information. They seemed to be hesitant to give me information so I explained that I needed to get back to work as I was on lunch so I gave them my name cell phone number and address but when I left and went home later that day two officers came to my doorstep and said there was a reported hit and run on me. They took my statement and told me I should call the towns police who reported me further to my town so I did and they told me to come down to the station to give them a statement so I did. When I arrived the officer who responded and I went into a room where I explained what happened which I’m sure my home town police had already told them and he refuted my claim and told me he knew these people, I don’t know in what way he meant that statement but it was an odd one. Anyways he said that he thinks I’m afraid of losing my license because I’ve had a couple violations on my record. Witnesses were there and said that I pulled over and spoke to the people but I guess they are saying I wasn't anywhere close to them and that they didn’t see me give them any information but I did. I stopped pulled over and did just that and now this officer is saying he’s going to file for my arrest. Can he do this and what am I looking at as a result of arrest, by the way I am a fully insured driver I have to add.
The question is, did you hit and run. I don't think so and I don't think a good lawyer would let you be convicted of it. Hire the best traffic court lawyer you can find.
He can. Innocent people sometimes get arrested. I would consider hiring a lawyer and fighting the charge if I were you. The worst is a year in jail, which is highly unlikely. You will either get a fine, or you could get pre-trial intervention. You should ask for pre-trial intervention if you do not want to go to trial and try get off completely.
