QUESTION

Could I speed up my social security disability process?

Asked on Jun 15th, 2015 on Personal Injury - Wisconsin
More details to this question:
Back in March 2014 I applied for disability with social security and was denied. I later made a claim and won my case. Now social security sent me a letter telling me I should receive my back money 30-90 days and this was October 28, 2012. I called today and someone said it was an mistake on their part because someone didn't put it in the system and I have to wait another 45 days is this anything I can do to speed up the process? Thanks in advance.

March of 2014 or October of 2012? Get a hold of your congressman's office, see if they can make a few calls.

You can speak to a local attorney who handles such claims but i would doubt he/she can get them to act faster. I assume you meant October 2014 and not 2012.

Get a supervisor involved, get your communications documented, monitor this situation, make regular contact for status updates, and consider videotaping anyone jerking you around.

Probably not, but you might want to call your Senator or Congress person.

As a general practice lawyer, I do not know any formal way to speed up the payments process, even though you were treated very poorly. Why not try making a visit to your local Social Security office with all the papers generated so far in your hand. Ask to speak to a supervisor and be your most gracious, most winning, most pleasant, and generally nicest, and urge him or her to do all they can to speed things up. If they have some sort of hardship exception to the rules, he or she might be willing to exercise it.
