What can I do? The dentist broke my tooth. I went for cleaning about 2 months ago. At that time, during cleaning, a stone-like substance came out which I had to spit out and there was a blood. The dentist didn't say anything and he just gave me a water to spit out. I thought there must be some crazy food stuff there which may have damaged but I don't eat meat so there is no such possibility. For a while, I was feeling a gap between one of my very end teeth and gum and I was trying to show my wife. She was not able to find anything as that teeth is at the very end. Today, I laid in the same position as the dentist office and asked her to see it from the top. And she found it! it is a crazy big gap. he broke my tooth! He did not accept it and he didn't even tell me anything about it. I don't know what to do?!!!! This is so late. Is he going to accept his fault now? What can I do about it?
So sorry to hear about your broken tooth. Whether your dentist committed malpractice all depends on whether damaging a tooth during a routine cleaning falls below the standard of care or whether it's a risk (albeit an uncommon one) of the procedure. Unfortunately, given the expense associated with even bringing a malpractice lawsuit, that might not really be a viable option for you. Your best bet may be to speak with your dentist, explain to him what happened, and see if he will accept responsibility and perhaps fit you with a new tooth (or at least refer you to an orthodontist). Given the cost of dental treatment, ask if he'll cover (or maybe split) the cost of getting a new tooth.
Hope this helps.
