I was broke my hand while a passenger in my sister car 11/27/14. We were hit by another car who was at fault. I hired a lawyer by a referral service through my employer. He won $30k (in what he called round1) which I only rec'd $10k from after paying him $10,954 includes a $954 expenses for paperwork. Them Segwick $4500 set to the side which is disability. Other doctor bills. I feel cheated for going through a lawyer and one who showed no sympathy & robbed me. He said he would try for more. But my gut tells me he does not care. Please advice if my case was mishandle & if I can seek justice to recovery my money?
Most contracts for legal services are based on the lawyer getting 1/3 of the settlement if no trial. It is usual for the medical providers to get somewhere in the neighborhood of 1/3 and the client to get the balance. Other factors can influence the amount the client gets such as out of pocket expenses, expert fees and other expenses. Look at the contract you signed with the attorney to see what they are entitled to. An ethical attorney will charge no more than was agreed to in the contract.
