QUESTION

Ghosted by my lawyer

Asked on Sep 22nd, 2017 on Personal Injury - New York
More details to this question:
So, a lawyer of mine was working on 2 personal injury cases for me and they apparently ended up in some legal trouble. I'm not able to reach them nor their firm for about a year now. I've already done the footwork to file a grievance. What happens next and what can I do to get the ball rolling on my cases so they can be resolved already. It's been some time now and I don't want to discredit my cases because of lost time if that's even a factor at this point. I need help and appreciate any suggestions.

You can hire a lawyer to pick up where your old lawyer left off. I suggest you do that right away so the cases don't get dismissed for lack of prosecution. Your new lawyer may be able to find out a great deal of information about your cases online. The first thing the lawyer should do is contact the attorneys for the defendants and explain the situation, and get extensions of time to comply with any deadlines coming up. A good lawyer can work around your missing lawyer.
