You have the right to change lawyers at anytime. All you have to do is to hire a new lawyer and your new lawyer will on your behalf notify your current lawyer that you are discharging your current lawyer and hiring your new lawyer. Your new lawyer and current lawyer will work out a fee division between both lawyers.
Some of the issues raised by your current lawyer (e.g. location, being a minority) are factors that effect the value of a claim/judgment.
Good luck with this matter.
