QUESTION

How can I help my niece who was sexually assaulted?

Asked on Feb 21st, 2012 on Personal Injury - California
More details to this question:
My niece claims she was sexually assaulted by her step dad’s brother. She got a restraining order against him but now her step dad’s family went to go live in the house with them now. They are trying to make her say she was lying. The sister of the offender even went so far saying that even if he did do something to her she would be asking for it which got me very angry and her step dad is even defending his brother which is making me angrier. I really want to help her. What can I do if her family is working against her and no one is on her side except her brother? My niece and her brother are really close to me and my brothers.

The assault would be a crime. Did the police investigate and refer it to the District Attorney? You have to determine exactly what the restraining does and how long it lasts. You provide insufficient facts to get adequate advice here. Call the District Attorney. Your county might have a family law adviser. Try to talk to them.
