I recently was assaulted and I've been having trouble pressing charges on 2 boys. The cops and the prosecutor have been putting me in circles. All I want to do is press charges on the 2 boys for assaulting me and pay for medical bills. Please advise.

You cannot control the police and prosecutors. But, you can decide whether or not to file a civil lawsuit for personal injury (assault and battery). I suggest that you find a good lawyer to file the lawsuit.

The police and DA make those decisions. If you don't impress them how are you going to impress a judge or jury? You can sue them civilly but who will pay for the atty fee, the filing fee, the sheriffs service fee? Have you thought this out?

You can keep trying what you are doing, that's about it. They have the discretion to determine the action they want to take. I, myself, have brought over assault victims to the police station on three occasions and the cops refused to even take a statement.

This will not answer your question. However, you should contact the Indiana Attorney General's Office to see if you are eligible under their Violent Crimes Program for payment of the medical bills.

You can sue them civilly, possibly in Small Claims Court. But do the boys have property with which they could satisfy any judgment you might win? In some states parents are partly or wholly responsible for the wrongs their children cause. Consult a skilled personal injury lawyer.

You have already pressed charges and done all you can do. "Pressing Charges" is calling the police, reporting the crime, and letting the police know that you want them to bring charges. If the police and prosecutor choose not to bring charges because if insufficient evidence, or otherwise do not think the case is worthy, there is nothing you can do. You can hire an attorney to represent you as a victim, but his does not guarantee that charges will be brought.
