QUESTION

How do I serve Defendant after filing small claim?

Asked on Feb 12th, 2016 on Personal Injury - Wisconsin
More details to this question:
I filed a small claim for personal injury in Ozaukee County, WI today. I was asked to select a court date. When I selected the date the clerk made a funny face and said that I needed to be sure that the date wouldn't nullify my case but couldn't tell me how or why. Also I asked what the process was for serving the Defendant and she said she couldn't tell me that either.

Did you select a court date with insufficient time to enable you to have the lawsuit papers served? that is the only thing I can think of. You can bring a set of the papers  (small claims lawsuit) to the sheriff's department in the county where the defendant is residing and have them served that way. You cannot personally serve the papers. There are also private process server companies that do this type of work.
