I signed paperwork settling my case about 2 months ago and my lawyer tell me to go to his office to get my check so I went while I was there he told me he was hold money in an escrow account to pay off one final bill when it came in from the hospital. I called the billing department at the hospital and they told me I had a zero balance my personal insurance paid the bill. I called my insurance company and they informed me that all bills have been paid and they were paid in full by my attorney so I don't owe anybody a penny but my lawyers continuing to say that there's an outstanding balance.
My best advice is to ask your current attorney to explain why they believe you still owe money. I assume you have explained to them that you have made calls confirming no balance. Perhaps you can make the calls together with your attorney to find out the truth. If you have no balance owed, the money should be released to you ASAP.
