No time limit on the settlement demand, however you have 2 years from date of accident to file suit and purpose of settlement demand is to resolve case before having to file suit. Therefore, as soon as you are done treating need to obtain all your medical bills and records and provide to carrier with settlement demand.

In California, you have up to 2 years from the date of the accident to file a lawsuit for compensation. After 2 years, your claim is barred by the statute of limitation.
