how much should i expect? moped+car

More details to this question:
my moped was totaled two weeks ago. a woman approaching from behind while i was waiting for a left hand turn (waiting for traffic to clear) desided not to stop and crossed the double yellow line to pass me right as i was turning and smashed in to me. the car bumper hit my leg and the mirror broke off hitting my triceps. the moped flipped and i landed about 7-10 feet away. i left in an ambulance but no injuries. i did have a few pulled muscles and my whole arm turn purple. i'm having back pain and am seeing a doctor about it but i think it's still very minor. even so i'v been bed ridden for two weeks do to soreness. i like to get out and work out and exercise and it's driving me crazy. i called a lawyer and he said i shouldn't worry. they should be happy to give me a fair compensation. a friend of mine is dealing with the same company for getting t-boned and a permentaly damaged right arm and they offered her $5000 in compensations. i really just don't know how much i should ask for.

Insurance companies would rather spend the money to fight small cases, knowing that someone without a lawyer will likely go away if offered pennies on the dollar for what their case is worth. I've seen $1,000 requests denied when the only injuries are soft tissue. If you really expect to be compensated for your case, I'd find a good lawyer to fight your case.
