Although it is illegal to drive without insurance, this isn't relevant to establishing liability in a car accident. Even if you are sure she was at fault, the insurance company might not see it that way. After the accident, did you file a police report and did you obtain a copy? Did you take pictures of the scene of the accident? Did you speak with any eyewitnesses, and do you have any of their contact information?
The more documentation you have, the better your chances are at proving she was at fault. If you can do that, you will have a better chance at obtaining compensation.
