If he is not compliant with his medications, the facility could be keeping him under and involuntary committment order, claiming he is a danger to himself or ohers.  You should ask to see any committment paperwork or order, and encourage your son to take the medication so that you can secure his release.  It may also be necessary for you to become his guardian so that he can be released into your custody.
