QUESTION

Same insurance company - next steps?

Asked on Jan 13th, 2014 on Automobile Accidents - Maryland
More details to this question:
Hi ¿ I am hoping someone can share advice on next steps for me in dealing with the insurance company after an auto accident. Here is what has happened already: After the accident occurred, I felt that it was unsafe to deal with the other driver on my own because he was aggressive before the accident and I can only imagine how mad he would be after the accident. After I found a safe place to pull over ¿ the other driver is already gone. I called my insurance company and submitted a claim that day. A few days later, someone from the same insurance company that I use called me asking about the accident but didn't seem to know that I already submitted claim. It turns we have the SAME company! I am waiting to hear back from my adjuster ¿ but I am wondering if I should seek a third party lawyer since the accident involved the same insurance company? Or what I should do next? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you were not injured and are only trying to get the property damage taken care of, then you likely do not need an attorney.  It does not matter that both drivers have the same insurance company as that happens often.  Make arrangements to have the at fault driver's auto insurance property damage adjuster examine your vehicle.  Also, take your vehicle to a body shop of your choice and have a property damage estimate done so that you can compare it to the one that you will get from the at fault driver's property damage adjuster.  Good luck with this matter.
