I met my roommates on craigslist. The situation was bizarre from the start but I moved from Seattle to Boston for school. As our situation progresses, it turned to assault one night. She grabbed me and pushed me. I filed a police report, got medical confirmation of whiplash and spoke to the landlords to see about possible other living situations. I didn't feel safe, she would watch me any time I was in the kitchen, standing at the door just staring, following me around etc. every time I left I felt like I had to set up a security camera. I hated leaving because of fear she would harm my stuff and I hated being there for fear of her hurting me. I missed school because of it. After calling the landlords, I found out our lease was illegal (we were subletting and didn't know it was illegal). Everyone was evicted with a 7 day eviction notice and I didn't have money for a new first, last and deposit with a new lease. I talked to the school, explained the situation and they let me leave on medical conditions. Because of this girl I lost $11,000 in tuition and the cost of moving out back to Seattle to recoup from the situation. I also have medical bills and so many things that I've had to pay for because she's been so intimidating. I need legal advice, there is a lot more to the story but I think I may be able to take this to a court. I have police reports, doctors notes, school counseling notes and agreements, witnesses to the intimidation, videos of the surveillance I felt like I needed. I documented everything very well.
It sounds very much as though you do need an attorney. It also sounds as though you may have claims against both your roommate and your landlord. You should definitely pursue this through an attorney.
