QUESTION

slip and fall on ice

More details to this question:
Slipped and fell on ice at a Courtyard by Marriott 24 Jan 2016. I filed an incident report, noting back, hip , knee and rib pain ,but admitting that I'd sustained a relatively minor rib fracture before the incident. Fall was on a small patch of untreated ice outside the main entrance, causing sharp increased pain to the rib and an onset of hip, knee and back pain that is still present. Didn't seek medical attention but have been resting and using pain pills given me previously The President & CFO of management firm contacted me 1 feb 2016, by phone after I'd written an email asking why I'd not yet been contacted. Claimed he could not offer more than $1000 after I'd suggested a sum of $10,000 seemed more appropriate. He is forwarding this to their claims dept. I do not wish to enter the stress of litigation unless necessary, feeling that I will likely heal in time.

Just because you fell does not make the hotel liable. You would have to establish that the ice and had been there for a sufficient length of time that they knew about it and failed to treat it. Since you did not get any medical treatment and will hopefully heal without any permanent injuries, the $1,000 that is offered is more on a nuisance offer to make you go away. Whether you want to take any offer is totally up to you but since filing a lawsuit is really not a viable option at this point and you do not want to go this route anyway, try and get as much from them as you can and then settle.
