My vehicle was stolen and involved in an accident. This happened while I was at a weekend music festival so I was only made aware when the police notified me. It was a hit-skip and the driver was not apprehended. The following Monday I was contacted by the detective handling the case and he informed I was a suspect. The detective immediately accused me and told me he thought I was the one driving. He wouldn't accept my statements and told me I was going to jail. I assured him that I wasn't driving and that I had several witnesses to verify where I was the night in question. He said he had witnesses claiming the contrary and asked if he could put me in a photo lineup. I agreed as I was certain I wasn't involved. He continued to intimidate me and he assured me that the next time we spoke he'd be arresting me. Well, I never heard from him again. I was too terrified to contact him so I did nothing. That was over 7 years ago and I am just wondering if there's anything I can do by now.
There is really nothing to be done at this point. Any applicable statute of limitation has long since expired.
