QUESTION

Using GPS on phone while driving

Asked on Oct 13th, 2013 on Automobile Accidents - Massachusetts
More details to this question:
I was wondering if it is illegal to use a phone GPS while driving in Massachusetts if the unit is mounted on a dash or windshield. I am aware that texting while driving is illegal, but I'm not sure if this pertains to navigation as well. Thank you.

Technically, it is against the law to do anything that may "impede" your driving, ie. talking on the phone, eating, reading email.  An officer can issue a $35 ticket for "impeded operation" M.G.L.c.90-13, which could include using the GPS whlle driving.
