I got into an accident in March 12 2020 with an under age driver driving his mother's car and I call the cops and i was told that is a civil case that we need to exchange our insurance and driver’s license and then go to the pristine close by to fill in DMV motor accident. Lucky police pass by scene I stopped them they said same we need to exchange driver’s licenses and insurance that’s a civil case so the policeman asked for our driving documents which we both provide and he told us to snap with our phone before he returned the documents back to each owner. I called there insurance they told me that am at fault so my claim was denied. On October 25 2020 someone came to my door and hand over a paper to me which is the summon. We both have a third party insurance i don’t know why they sending summons to me? Please I need lawyers to enlighten me on what to do because I already appeared in court and I was told that they will reach out to let me know the date of hearing.
From what you described it sounds like you are getting sued. Contact your insurance company immediately and let them know that you received a summons. Your insurance company will assign an attorney to defend you and pay any judgment entered against you up to the limits of your insurance policy. Keep in mind that you only have twenty (20) days in which to answer a summons personally served upon you so contact your insurance company ASAP or you risk having a default judgment entered against you.
