QUESTION

What state should my counsel be licensed in?

Asked on Nov 24th, 2014 on Automobile Accidents - Virginia
More details to this question:
I was in an automobile accident in SC in May 2014. The other party, who has claimed Liability lives in NC. I, myself, live in VA. I still have an open claim with the Liable Parties' insurance company and bills for my treatment are accruing quickly. I am not paying for these treatments on my own, nor is the liable Insurance company, until this Claim is settled. I feel as if I need to obtain counsel to represent me, as this the claims are growing exponentially. I've received conflicting advice. My question is....Can I obtain a lawyer from my hometown, in VA or do I need to obtain counsel in SC or NC? Thank you for your response.

Yes, you can hire a lawyer in Virginia and if he/she is not familiar with South Carolina auto accident law, he/she can consult or co-counsel with a South Carolina auto accident lawyer.  You also could just hire a South Carolina auto accident lawyer.  You do not need a North Carolina attorney as the law of that state does not apply to this auto collision.  Good luck with this matter.
