QUESTION

When to fire an attorney representing you in an auto accident?

Asked on Apr 30th, 2013 on Automobile Accidents - North Carolina
More details to this question:
I had my accident in July 2012 and hired my attorney about 2 weeks after that. As of today, 10 months later, they have received 2 offers which she stated are not even enough to cover my medical bills. And my NC Dept of Revunue has denied my tax refund due to the outstanding EMS bill from the date of the accident, which she had advised me not to pay any bills upon our first meeting. When I addressed the issue with my taxes to her yesterday, her reply was via email and said only " we should have a new offer tomorrow as the previous offer doesn't even cover your medical bills." I did sign a contract with her, but I feel as though they are not doing enough. How do I know if I should fire her and what I will be out of pocket if I do fire her?

You need to review the contract you signed.  You may be able to terminate the relationship with minimal exposure, and then you can hire another attorney who will handle your case more aggressively and appropriately under the circumstances.  Good luck going forward.  -Jay Mills
