One of my Semi-Truck drivers hit a car in GA last July and caused very minor damage to a vehicle. I talked with the car owner on the phone and he explained to me that he was coming back from the chiropractor, but I would have to deal with his insurance company,I told them I was going to pay out of pocket. They told me it was about $800.00.My driver said that he thought the people were trying to get hit to make money. I didn't think so until Jan 24, I received a letter from a lawyer wanting my insurance limits and policy#. I tried calling the other insurance company today and I thought it was closed, but they didn't want to share any information with me. My company is out of Utah.
David,
Typically, insurance information can be obtained from an accident report, assuming one was drafted. A lawyer or individual can then contact the other party's insurance to start a claim. Since you were contacted directly, I would contact your insurance carrier to let them know about the situation. They would then need to investigate and deal with the claim.
